Controversy is building around the Morgan County coroner.
I-Team 8 has exclusive details into why some are calling for him to beremoved from office, and why he quietly left the Morgan County Sheriff’s Department.
Garry Long’s personal website touts his “26 years serving Morgan County.” It highlights a career that includes being a Morgan County detective sergeant, an investigator for the Major Crimes Task Force, a member of the Fraternal Order of Police. He’s also the county coroner, an elected official.
However, Facebook messages to a 17 –year-old autistic boy tell a different story.
The boy asks: “were r u at”
Long responds: “I’m at home, upstairs in the man cave. Where do you want me to be?”
Boy: “work lol”
At one point Long was texting him at school, telling him “don’t get caught using your phone. lol”, calling him “little buddy,” asking “how old are you now?”
Long questions : “You don’t know me, not the real me. Do you?”
Boy: “Maybe not. lol”
Long: “That’s what I thought”
Long, who also has an autistic son, repeatedly asks: “you have no idea, do you?” asking if the boy understood his intentions, and each time the boy said “no” and found comfort in that he knew Officer Long.
Then the conversation turns.
Long tells the boy he likes to “play”
“I think you are so cute? sorry if that offends you. I am bi-sexual and I have always had the hots for you. Sorry if that freaks you out. If it does, please don’t ell anyone. Please!”
But he keeps on, explaining he is drunk: “Please forgive me.I am so sorry. Please!”
Long asks the boy if any of it bothers him. When the boy says no, Long says: “Okay that gives me permission to speak to you without anyone getting upset”
